Last week my friend asked me to make her a banner with tinsel that says “Wap’n Around the Christmas Tree.” How could I turn that down?!

My only regret is that I didn’t use glitter paper! My local craft store didn’t have enough sheets of the same color of glitter paper and I didn’t want to go galivanting all over town. We’re in a pandemic for chrissakes! I also didn’t want to order something and make my friend wait because I’m not sure how shipping times are going to be affected this year.

I used my Cricut Maker for this project. Another option for cutting out letters that look polished is the We R Memory Keepers Letter Punch Board.
I used Bazzill Red 12x 12 textured cardstock. A medium to heavy weight paper like this works best for this project. I used the Segoe font and made my letters 4″ tall.

In retrospect I should have tried punching holes in the letters in the Design Space program by welding tiny circles to the corners of the letters. Since I didn’t have that revelation until after I cut out my letters, I used my vinyl weeding tool to punch a hole in the corners of each letter and widened each hole gently with a toothpick.
I’ve only made word banners with string before so I had to come up with a way to get them attached to the tinsel without tearing the paper. I decided to treat them like pendants on a chain and use jump rings.
OOPS I ended up with an eight foot long banner. I shortened it to two roughly 4′ long banners. I also abbreviated “Christmas” to “Xmas” to conserve paper and wall space.
