Like the bad witch that I am, I was out of town for Ostara this year. Although I did celebrate in my own way while on vacation, I didn’t do much at home. This year I’m using Easter to honor the holiday instead.
Here’s how I decorated, incorporating my love for all things witchy and kitschy.
It isn’t March yet but I’m so ready for spring! I live near Philadelphia and the weather has been pretty brutal this winter, between the snowstorms and the freezing rain.
Ostara, or the March equinox, is on March 20th of this year. That’s only about a month away! I’m starting to decorate for Ostara now. It might be a little early, but seeing signs of spring in my home remind me that we’re in the home stretch!
I’ve been shopping online for home accents to brighten up my space for spring and prepare for Ostara. Here are twelve of my favorite witchy housewares you can use to refresh your home for spring:
I like to refresh my mantle every few months to keep it interesting. I just can’t stand to look at the same things all the time. I rotate my art as well as the tchotchkes. I started taking down my Kewpie mantle from Christmas in early January, and this Valentine’s Day decor evolved from it.
An eclectic theme of vintage toys, minerals, and plants emerged while I was arranging it. These are all things that I collect so this came together pretty naturally on its own.
Imbolc is on February 1st, which is just two weeks away. This pagan holiday celebrates the returning of the sun. This is a time to think about reconnecting with nature and prepare yourself for the coming spring.
Here are six easy ways you can celebrate Imbolc at home:
Mulling spices are easy to whip up and make a fun holiday gift. They are traditionally used to spice cider or wine, but you can flavor any liquid with them. Try black tea, rum, maple syrup, or vinegar! You can even just simmer them on the stove in water for a festive scent.
Moon water is water that has been charged by the full moon. The moon water can be given different properties based on the astrological sign associated with the current moon. (This is a great resource that tells you which properties each astrological sign most signifies.)
This month, the full moon is in Gemini as of 12:39 AM Eastern on Friday November 23rd, so you’ll want to leave this out overnight on Thursday the 22nd.
I have been enamored with Marcy Kentz’s jewelry since I came across it on her Instagram last year. Her jewelry designs juxtapose sacred geometry and nature in a modern, witchy way. Her pieces are talismans full of esoteric symbolism, perfect for any witch’s wardrobe.
