Roswell, NM: a Trip to Alien Country

In October of 2017 my mom and I took a road trip through central New Mexico. Our main destination was Roswell, New Mexico, home of the infamous UFO incident on 1947.

I’ve been reading about Roswell and the UFO incident since I was a child. I was often drawn to the strange, esoteric, and extraterrestrial. This was a destination I always wanted to visit but never thought I’d get the chance. I never traveled very often, and New Mexico just wasn’t in the plans.

From the photo booth at the International UFO Museum and Research Center. Yes, the alien is picking my nose in the last one.

Then my mom moved to New Mexico in 2016. She had lived in the state for over a year before but had never ventured this far east. Our trip gave her a chance to explore her new state. How lucky for me!

Here’ what we saw:

It isn’t March yet but I’m so ready for spring! I live near Philadelphia and the weather has been pretty brutal this winter, between the snowstorms and the freezing rain.

My poor chilly flamingo!

Ostara, or the March equinox, is on March 20th of this year. That’s only about a month away! I’m starting to decorate for Ostara now. It might be a little early, but seeing signs of spring in my home remind me that we’re in the home stretch!

I’ve been shopping online for home accents to brighten up my space for spring and prepare for Ostara. Here are twelve of my favorite witchy housewares you can use to refresh your home for spring:

My Vintage Valentine’s Day Mantle

I like to refresh my mantle every few months to keep it interesting. I just can’t stand to look at the same things all the time. I rotate my art as well as the tchotchkes. I started taking down my Kewpie mantle from Christmas in early January, and this Valentine’s Day decor evolved from it.

An eclectic theme of vintage toys, minerals, and plants emerged while I was arranging it. These are all things that I collect so this came together pretty naturally on its own.

Here’s how I pulled it together:

7 Winter Survival Tips for Stretched Ears

Every winter I forget how uncomfortable my stretched ears can be when the temperatures drop! They get sore, tight, and itchy. And they get cold so easily.

I started stretching my ears when I was 16, which was 18 years ago. That’s more than half of my life! I stretched my ears to 1″ about 12 years ago, and I’ve been at that size ever since. Ten years ago I got my conches punched at 8mm/0g, and that’s the size of jewelry that I wear currently. I am originally from the midwest and live on the east coast now, so I am no stranger to taking care of stretched ears in the winter.

I’ve put together a list of things that you can do to make your stretched ears more comfortable in cold weather, based on my experience.

Here are my 7 winter survival tips for taking care of your stretched ears:

Fox Cave: New Mexico’s Best Tourist Trap

In October of 2017 my mom and I took a road trip through central New Mexico. The first leg of our trip took us down Route 70, where we stopped at Fox Cave to break up the trip to Roswell.

Fox Cave isn’t a cave that you tour like Carlsbad Caverns. The actual cave is in the gift shop. It’s educational, but not slick like a modern museum.

That doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth a visit. In my opinion, this place is New Mexico’s best tourist trap.

Luxurious & Sexy OOTN

We’re in the middle of a cold snap here in the eastern United States. My date night outfits need to not only be cute, but also keep me warm, at least from the car to the restaurant.

I’m always on the lookout for long sleeved dresses that aren’t frumpy, but with sleeves big enough to fit my arms. I came across this plus size surplice dress on Forever 21’s website while shopping last week and thought it would be something sexy I could wear on chilly nights. It was I bought it in teal but it also comes in rust.

Here’s what I thought about the dress, and how I styled it:
